Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments) announced that John Valentini, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), has been appointed Interim President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Valentini joined PSP Investments in 2005 as Senior Vice President and CFO, and was appointed Executive Vice President, COO and CFO in 2008. Prior to joining PSP Investments, he held CFO positions at BCE Emergis and Cognicase Inc. where he was also Executive Vice President, as well as senior positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young and CDP Capital.
Total Energy Services Inc. (TSX: TOT) announced the appointment of Dennis Hassel as Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer effective July 1, 2014. Mr. Hassel will replace Mark Kearl, who has been with Total since 2005 and will assume a newly created senior operational role to support the continued growth and expansion of Total’s Rentals and Transportation Services division. Most recently, Mr. Hassel spent 11 years with a New York Stock Exchange listed diversified energy services firm as a senior finance executive responsible for Canadian and southeast Asian operations. Prior to entering the energy services industry in 1992, Mr. Hassel spent seven years with a multi-national accounting and financial advisory firm in their Canadian audit and financial advisory services divisions.
Fortis Inc. (TSX: FTS) announced that Karl Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), FortisAlberta, will become EVP, Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”), Fortis, effective June 30, 2014. Mr. Smith has a career with the Fortis Group that spans more than 25 years. Mr. Smith was appointed President and CEO, FortisAlberta in 2007. Prior to then, he served as President and CEO, Newfoundland Power from 2004 through 2007 and as CFO, Fortis from 1999 through 2003. Mr. Smith currently serves as a Director on the Boards of FortisAlberta and CH Energy Group. He also serves as a Director on the Boards of the Western Energy Institute and the Canadian Electricity Association (“CEA”) and is past Chair of CEA.
Chinook Energy Inc. (TSX: CKE) announced the appointment of Jason Dranchuk as Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Chinook effective July 14, 2014. Since 2010, Mr. Dranchuk was the Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Zargon Oil & Gas Ltd. From 2002 to 2010, Mr. Dranchuk held the Vice President, Finance and Controller positions with Zargon. Prior thereto, Mr. Dranchuk was Corporate Controller of two oil and gas service companies and also worked at a public accounting firm.
Loyalist Group Limited (TSX-V: LOY) announced the appointment of Douglas Chornoboy as Chief Financial Officer of the Company. Mr. Chornoboy’s experience includes; Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Northern Group of Companies; Chief Financial Officer of Northern Securities Inc.; Chief Financial Officer of Jaguar Financial Corporation; Chief Financial Officer of Northern Financial Corporation; Senior Vice President and Controller at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC); Managing Director of CIBC World Markets; and Vice President of Wood Gundy. Most recently Mr. Chornoboy was the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Risk Officer of Jameson Bank. Contemporaneously with Mr. Chornoboy’s appointment, Nancy Lee has stepped down as Chief Financial Officer of the Company.
Ceiba Energy Services Inc. (TSX-V: CEB) announced the appointment of Peter Cheung as Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary effective June 30, 2014. Most recently, Mr. Cheung was the Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Petrobank Energy and Resources Ltd. Previously he was Treasurer at Compton Petroleum Corporation, after having founded an investment management company, was Vice President and Treasurer at Pengrowth Energy Trust and Vice President at RBC Capital Markets Energy Investment Banking. Prior to joining RBC Capital Markets, Mr. Cheung articled with Collins Barrow Calgary LLP.
Parkit Enterprise Inc. (TSX-V: PKT) announced that Simon Buckett has been appointed Chief Financial Officer. Most recently he was Vice President of Finance at Wurldtech Security Technologies, Inc.
Spackman Equities Group Inc. (TSX-V: SQG) announced the appointment of Alex Falconer as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer. Alex Falconer succeeds Kyoungwon Na, who will continue to serve as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Spackman Entertainment Group Limited (“SEGL”). Mr. Falconer also acts as the CFO of Rainbow Resources Inc., and the CFO of Monarch Resources Inc.
