Latest Release of SAP HANA 9 Helps Customers Innovate
More than 4,100 SAP HANA customers and 1,700 startups are leveraging the SAP HANA platform today. The latest release of SAP HANA, service pack 9 (SPS09), includes various key innovations, such as:
- Multi-tenancy aiming to simplify provisioning and management of multiple database workloads on premise and in the cloud. This can help customers better utilize system resources and reduce overall capital expenditure.
- Dynamic tiering, a highly scalable, integrated tiering option to help cost-effectively manage very large data sets and provide streamlined and transparent access to critical data.
- Smart data integration and smart data quality to help simplify data provisioning, transformations, cleansing and enrichment.
- Integrated smart data streaming option to process and analyze massive amounts of data in real time, allowing customers to make critical business decisions on the fly.
- High-performance, ACID-compliant graph storage and engine capabilities, which can be used to process enterprise data or highly interconnected social network and supply chain data. For example, the graph for SAP HANA is being used to identify learners and recommend learning materials in solutions from SuccessFactors, an SAP company, by combining transaction and graph data together to uncover insights that were previously hidden or too complex to calculate.
- User defined functions (UDFs) for SAP HANA for Hadoop enable SAP HANA to access the map reduce jobs within Hadoop directly.

“We’re excited about the graph capabilities for SAP HANA SPS09 that have enabled Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co. Ltd. (MKI) to create a relation-based repository for our analysis services, as well as new predictive algorithms to extend and expand our forecasting services,” said Hiroyuki Takaoka, general manager of ERP Sales Division, MKI. “In addition, the multi-tenancy database capabilities of SAP HANA SPS09 will provide flexible deployment models for MKI and our customers as we rollout this new service via SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud.”

“MapR has teamed with SAP to integrate the real-time deep analytics of SAP HANA with the production-ready, top-ranked MapR Distribution including Apache Hadoop,” said John Schroeder, CEO and co-founder of MapR Technologies. “With the addition of UDFs for SAP HANA that can invoke MapReduce jobs directly in the MapR Distribution, customers will have the ultimate flexibility in creating next-generation, Big Data and Internet of Things applications.”

“SAP HANA SPS09 now supports DataStax Enterprise 4.5 through smart data access to combine SAP HANA’s ‘speed of thought’ analytics on high-speed Internet of Things data supported by Datastax,” said Matt Rollender, vice president, Infrastructure and Ecosystem Development, DataStax. “The DataStax Connector Template, available on SAP HANA Marketplace, further enhances SAP HANA as the platform for Big Data and Internet of Things scenarios.”
