UK: Accountancy and Finance professionals feel under appreciated as research reveals pay rises fail to keep pace with inflation

Research was conducted in September 2012, with 800 responses across the UK, from Change Recruitment’s candidate database.

- Over a third (39%) of Accountancy and Finance professionals have not received inflationary pay rises within the last two years, according to research* released today by accountancy and finance recruitment specialists, Change Recruitment Group.

- One in six (17%) said they had received nothing at all, and nearly three quarters of respondents (73%) subsequently felt that they would be paid better if they worked for a different organisation. Over half (55%) also thought benefits would be better if they jumped ship.

- Over a third (37%) of Accountancy and Finance workers subsequently felt they were not appreciated by their organisation, whilst more than half (55%) said they have had to work longer hours post-recession.

The figures highlighted that frustrations are starting to show as three quarters (70%) confess to job hunting, with almost half (44%) of those looking for a move doing so in order to take a step up.
Tariq Chishti, divisional manager at Change Recruitment said: “In these difficult economic times, feeling appreciated by your employers goes a long way towards giving workers the confidence in their position.
“Workers do understand the difficult position some companies find themselves in, and realise that this can have a knock-on effect to their career progression.
“While a pay increase would always be welcome, feeling valued in the workplace fosters productivity and can help to allay any concerns an employee may have about their contribution and future with the company”.
