Mobile Payment: Orange to Partner With Wirecard for New Mobile Payment Service Orange Cash

Orange, the largest mobile operator in France, has chosen Wirecard as its partner for the launch in France of its new mobile payment service "Orange Cash" in partnership with Visa. As part of the strategic alliance, Wirecard will provide the technical platform needed to manage the mobile payment application. This allows consumers to pay just with the mobile handset at any contactless POS terminal. Wirecard Card Solutions Ltd., a member of Visa Europe, is the card issuing institution. Orange will use Wirecard's loyalty and couponing platform to launch mobile value-added services.

The payment service is currently in test operations in Strasbourg and Caen. These two cities are pioneers for the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) in France. Orange Cash will be launched nationwide in the second quarter of 2014.

State-of-the-art design and a unique user interface make payments using a mobile phone simple and intuitive: owners of NFC-enabled smartphones use Orange Cash to make contactless payments at the point of sale (POS) and also benefit from incentive and cashback offers. In addition, they can use their prepaid-based account to make purchases comfortably and securely in any online shop of their choice using a virtual one time use credit card, which is only valid for a short period of time.

"We are looking forward to launching Orange Cash and the successful start of a new era in mobile contactless payments in France," commented Thierry Millet, VP Mobile Payments and NFC with Orange. "The context in France is positive: we have been driving the rollout of NFC-enabled smartphones for several years, and have already issued a large number of NFC-based SIM cards."

"Orange is pioneering mobile contactless payments on the French market. We are very pleased to collaborate with Orange in creating the future of mobile payments in France," commented Markus Braun, CEO with Wirecard. "Wirecard has staked its place as a leading partner for mobile payment solutions at the very start of the European mobile payment initiatives."

As a technical service provider for mobile payment solutions, Wirecard is supplying Orange with an end-to-end technical eco-system for mobile payments: Wirecard operates the technical platform for issuing and provisioning of virtual Visa cards onto NFC-enabled SIM cards. In addition, Wirecard is providing the entire technical infrastructure for managing and adding funds to stored-value-accounts with a credit card and bank transfers. As a member of Visa Europe, Wirecard Card Solutions Ltd. is the card-issuer managing the consumer accounts. Orange will also use Wirecard's mobile loyalty and couponing platform to launch mobile value-added services. All of the functions of Orange Cash are combined in an intuitive smartphone application developed by Wirecard.
