While current business climate is holding up better than expected according to the German IFO, the overall number and also the important sub index measuring expectations for the months ahead both missed estimates indicating that the ongoing decline seen in Germany’s economy is continuing although at a much slower pace compared to recent months. Main factors impacting German growth continue to be the European financial crisis and the sharply slowing growth in China, one of Germany’s main trading partner. Overall while these numbers certainly don’t suggest that a turnaround is imminent and just around the corner at the same time with downside momentum finally slowing a bottoming out might not be too far reflecting recent calm in the financial markets especially in Europe.

Import prices in July 2012: +1.2% on July 2011
The index of import prices rose by 1.2% in July 2012 compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). In June 2012 the year-on-year rate of change was +1.3%, in May 2012 it was +2.2%. From June 2012 to July 2012 the index rose by 0.7%.

En juin, le nombre de personnes ayant touché des prestations d'assurance-emploi ordinaires a poursuivi sa tendance à la baisse, diminuant légèrement pour s'établir à 507 600 comparativement à 512 100 en mai. Le nombre de prestataires a faiblement régressé en Nouvelle-Écosse et légèrement augmenté en Ontario et à l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard.

This data set provides comprehensive information about the banking system of individual EU Member States, as well as aggregates for the whole EU. In particular, the data include indicators on profitability and efficiency, solvency, balance sheet composition, asset quality and developments in non-performing loans.

Publication of latest statistics on quarterly negotiated wages in the euro area Average negotiated wage rates in the euro area grew by 2.1% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2012, up from 2.0% in the first quarter of 2012.

Euro banknotes in circulation: latest figures The circulation of euro banknotes increased in July 2012, from €893.7 billion to €897.9 billion. This increase was mainly due to the net issuance of 50 euro notes (+€2.2 billion).

14.08.2012 (OFS) – En juillet 2012, l’indice des prix à la production et à l’importation, établi par l’Office fédéral de la statistique (OFS), a diminué comme en juin 2012 de 0,3% par rapport au mois précédent. Il se situe à présent à 97,9 points (base décembre 2010 = 100). Cette baisse est due une nouvelle fois au recul principalement des prix du pétrole et des produits pétroliers mais également à celui des métaux et des produits métallurgiques. Alors que les prix des produits indigènes ont enregistré un léger recul de 0,1%, les prix à l’importation ont fléchi de 0,7%. En rythme annuel, le niveau des prix de l’offre totale des produits importés et des produits du pays a baissé de 1,8%.
