Global Digital Finance (GDF), the cryptoassets and digital finance industry membership body which promotes best practices for cryptoassets and digital finance technologies, has confirmed the appointment of the Chair of its Advisory Council.

Malcolm Wright will serve for a second year as Chair of the Advisory Council which brings together specialists from regulators, governments, industry, and academia. He also chairs GDF’s KYC/AML/CTF working group.

He was recently appointed Chief Compliance Officer at 100x Group, the holding structure for the BitMEX platform.

Previously he was Chief Compliance Officer at Diginex, the digital assets financial services company, leading fintech Unicorn Revolut and has held senior leadership roles at Thomson Reuters’ anti-financial crime business.

An Associate Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute’s Centre for Financial Crime Studies in London, he is a regular speaker at international conferences and events on finance and technology regulatory issues.
Lawrence Wintermeyer, executive co-chair of Global Digital Finance, said: “Malcolm brings considerable experience with deep expertise on regulatory issues to GDF’s Advisory Council and he has an excellent working relationship with many of the global conduct regulators and agencies. We are delighted he will continue in the role.”

Malcolm Wright, Chair of the GDF Advisory Council, added: “GDF is playing an important role in developing conduct standards in a shared engagement forum with market participants, policymakers and regulators and I look forward to continuing to support its work.”

A recent survey of GDF members reported in the organisation’s 2020 annual report identified a lack of regulatory clarity as the biggest challenge facing the sector this year.
